Kilowatt Hours (2011)

Hacked energy meter, custom software, floor projection.

Kilowatt Hours measures and visualises the real time energy use of its exhibition space. It is an energy clock that draws on visual conventions used for the measurement of time. The projected line completes a full revolution every hour, at a radius determined by real time energy data. Patterns emerge that can be traced back over recent hours but eventually become faded and obscured. Over time, the work forgets. Kilowatt Hours draws on a legacy of formalist cinema and contemplates measurement, feedback and memory as well as probing institutional transparency and the public availability data.

This workis accompanied by a book chapter, Making Architecture Public.
